The 1994 Polsky Award was presented to a multi-talented and multi-caring Akron citizen: Bruce F. Rothmann, M.D. Referring to Rothmann's fundraising efforts for a score of Akron-area organizations, William H. Considine, president of Akron Children's Hospital, said, "He would have to be considered Akron's number one ambassador."
Rothmann was director of medical outreach at Children's Hospital. In receiving the award plaque from former Akron Community Foundation Board Chair Edward S. Gaffney, Rothmann said, "I consider it to be the highlight of my life to receive this award. It has been a privilege for me to be involved with my community. I now want to pass the community involvement torch to those younger than myself."
Rothmann was the type of caring humanitarian that typifies the precepts of the Polsky Award. His good work is known in many quarters, but there are countless "behind the scenes" contributions he has made to Akron, especially the children of the community.
