The Green Community Fund was established in 2022, the city's 30th anniversary, by a group of committed Green residents who wanted to create an enduring source of support for the community they live in and love.
The decision to create the fund was influenced by a number of factors, including dormant community projects, unrealized civic initiatives, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The combination of these issues revealed how crucial it is to have a charitable endowment that can respond to emerging needs and support the many nonprofits serving the Green community.
The fund's founders determined that becoming an affiliate of Akron Community Foundation would be the best way to protect and grow the fund's assets for generations to come.
To date, the fund has grown to nearly $350,000 thanks to the generosity of many individuals, families and organizations. Their gifts will help strengthen the Green community for generations to come through the fund's annual grants to a wide range of civic and community initiatives.
