GCEF's Impact: Trans Joy Akron
Trans Joy Akron's mission is to build a thriving, meaningfully inclusive trans+ community. The organization provides affirming spaces for visibility and social connection; empowers future leaders; and creates educational opportunities so trans+ people feel safe, supported and appreciated.
As a new, all-volunteer nonprofit, Trans Joy Akron is off to a strong start! TJA is grateful for the Gay Community Endowment Fund's support as we build a community focused on joy and thriving. This year's monthly meetups and educational events will be better than ever, thanks to GCEF's support.
Akron's Trans Day of Visibility Celebration in March was also a huge success! An open-mic highlighted talented, creative performers, while our Akron Visibility Award recipients celebrated emerging leaders in the trans+ community. At least 350 guests socialized, enjoyed crafts, ate delicious food, and learned about organizations that directly serve the trans+ community. We are grateful to our sponsors, community supporters, and volunteers who made this event so meaningful again this year.
