Dr. Steven Schmidt recently retired (again) from NEOMED after serving the University as chair of pharmaceutical sciences, vice president for research and dean of the College of Graduate Studies since 2015. Prior to his work at the medical university, Dr. Schmidt retired from Summa Health System in 2014 after 32 years in leadership roles for the health system, including vice president of clinical research and innovation and chief operating officer of Summa Foundation. Dr. Schmidt's professional career spanned 42 years in higher education and healthcare in total. A graduate of Leadership Akron, he has served on many boards in the community, including the Gay Community Endowment Fund, of which he is one of the founders. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from DePauw University, and his doctorate from Idaho State University.
