About Carla
As chief diversity officer of Akron Public Schools, Carla oversees the execution of the school board's racial equity policy and supports district equity training, planning and evaluation of equity work. Prior to this role, Carla served as the director of community relations for more than a decade, providing information about the school system to students and parents, as well as the Greater Akron community as a whole. She has also worked as the coordinator of special projects, as well as a social services specialist during her 27-year career with the schools. In addition to her professional career, Carla is a Habitat for Humanity board member and serves on several local collaboratives including the Summit County Upward Mobility Coalition, the Greater Akron Chamber's Diversity Leaders' Roundtable and the Northeast Ohio Psychiatric Institute. She is LeadDIVERSITY certified through The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio and a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory. She is an alum of The Ohio State University and The University of Akron, and earned her doctorate in Interprofessional Leadership/Cultural Foundations from Kent State University.
