Akron Community Foundation invites area nonprofit organizations to its first nonprofit training conference on March 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The conference will feature keynote speakers April Walker, founder of Philanthropy for the People, and Steve Higgins, CFRE, President & CEO of Carter.

Through engaging workshops, interactive sessions, and insightful keynotes, participants will gain valuable skills, strategic insights, and practical tools to navigate the challenges of the nonprofit landscape. Space is limited, so organizations may send up to two attendees. Tickets are $25 each.

Introduction to Finding Grants

This free introductory course will explain what funders are looking for in nonprofits seeking grants and explore how to find potential funders. You will learn the 10 most important things you need to know about finding grants, including:

  • Where nonprofit funds come from and what are their motivations are.
  • What funders really want to know about the organizations they are interested in funding.
  • How to identify potential funders and make the first approach.

Our keynote speakers are Dr. Lindsay Kite and Dr. Lexie Kite, co-directors of the nonprofit Beauty Redefined and leading experts in body image resilience and media literacy. The fund will also honor Barb Greene, founder of CommonGood Consulting Inc., with the Judith A. Read Tribute Award for Service & Advocacy for Women.

It's a fun opportunity for attorneys, accountants and financial advisors to connect with local colleagues while learning how Akron Community Foundation can help you accomplish your clients' goals through philanthropy.

Guests will enjoy a selection of food and craft beer while competing in a friendly game of pub trivia. We'll also hear from Craig Haines of Popeye's Boxing Gym to learn how this grassroots nonprofit organization is using the sport of boxing to empower and mentor local children.

Join the Gay Community Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation for its annual celebration, exhALE: Advancing Lived Equality. This year's signature event will take place Friday, June 7, 2024 at 6 p.m. at the Knight Stage at the Akron Civic Theatre. Guests will enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres, beverages, and an inspiring program highlighting the fund's recent grant and scholarship recipients. All proceeds support academic scholarships for LGBTQ+ and allied students in Greater Akron.
