Stow-Munroe Falls Library Fund

From book sales to bake-offs, the Friends of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library work hard to support the library’s literary, cultural and informational resources. On Sept. 6, 2007, the group took a major step toward ensuring its hard work pays off forever.

Treasurer Hermine Meyer, Peggy Shaffer, Nicole Richardson-Welsh and Barbara Beiling sign the fund agreement.

The group established an endowment fund at Akron Community Foundation in order to grow the endowment through community gifts and to take advantage of the foundation’s prudent investment policy.

The Friends wasted no time in raising their first contribution, which came from Barbara Beiling, the library’s book sale coordinator. Beiling said she wholeheartedly supports the group’s decision to establish a fund at Akron Community Foundation.

“We were looking for a large organization with proven expertise and integrity,” she said, adding that when she heard about the foundation’s community impact, she was “overwhelmed.”

She also was excited by the prospect of providing income to the library forever.

“That’s what is unique about an endowment fund,” said then-foundation President Jody Bacon. “It’s bigger than the sum of its parts. It gathers gifts - both large and small - from all over the community for a common purpose. Then, it grows them over time.”

Establishing an endowment at Akron Community Foundation is easy and inexpensive: Just $5,000 is required for an initial investment. A fund can support a specific agency or purpose, and can bear your name, the name of your business or organization, or that of your family or loved one.
