The Women's Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation announced its annual "Who Is Your SHEro?" campaign will run through April 30, with a goal to raise $60,000 to benefit women and girls in Greater Akron.

Community members are encouraged to make tribute or memorial gifts in honor of their SHEroes, the women who have made a significant impact on them as a mother, sister, friend or mentor. In turn, those honored can receive a SHEro card letting them know a gift was made in their name, but not the amount.

Donations are fully tax deductible and ultimately support the Women's Endowment Fund's grantmaking to programs that improve the health and wellness, safety, and economic empowerment of women and girls in Summit County. As a permanent endowment, gifts made to the Women's Endowment Fund will benefit women and girls for years to come.

"The 'Who Is Your SHEro' campaign is a wonderful way to honor important women in your life while also helping deserving nonprofits that uplift other women and girls in our community." said Wendy Bolas, SHEro campaign co-chair. "By donating to this campaign, you're truly giving a gift that keeps on giving."

In 2018, the SHEro campaign raised more than $58,000 for the Women's Endowment Fund with the help of 36 SHEro ambassadors. This year, campaign organizers aim to reach $60,000 by again using a team of SHEro ambassadors, each of whom has committed to raise at least $1,000 through their personal and professional networks. There are three easy ways to celebrate your SHEroes:

  • Donate online at YourShero.com.
  • Call Akron Community Foundation at 330-376-8522.
  • Donate by texting SHERO to 71777.

Additionally, throughout the month of April, the Women's Endowment Fund will celebrate the accomplishments of local SHEroes like Joey Arrietta, Akron Racers president and general manager, who uses her voice to advocate for local women and professional softball. Featured SHEroes like Arrietta will be spotlighted on the fund's social media pages, and community members are encouraged to post about their own SHEroes with the hashtag #AkronSHEro.

Major sponsors of the SHEro campaign include GOJO Industries and The J.M. Smucker Company.
