Betty Dalton

Betty DaltonFor 40 years, former Akron Public School Board president and lifelong volunteer Betty Dalton has worked tirelessly served to make Greater Akron a better place to live and raise a family.

After graduating from Buchtel High School and later Wellsley College, Dalton returned to Akron with her husband, John. It was then that she began her volunteer career with Junior League, an organization that emphasizes volunteerism in the community. She quickly rose to serve as the organization’s national director.

Years later, Dalton’s deep interest in our local education system prompted her to run for the Akron Public School Board. During her 21-year board tenure, she served as president, vice president and chair of the board’s instructional policy, housing sites and grounds, and personnel committees. Dalton continues to serve the educational community on the board of Summit Education Initiative.

Over the years, Dalton has served in many capacities, including as director of First National Bank of Ohio, president of Mobile Meals and president of Family Services of Summit County, now Greenleaf Family Services, from which she received the inaugural Betty Dalton Community Service Award in 2003.

Even among the accolades, Dalton continues to hold one designation among the dearest to her heart: lifetime member of the PTA.

Such zeal and a genuine love for volunteerism make Betty Dalton a most worthy counterpart of Bert A. Polsky, the humanitarian whose name has become synonymous with the philanthropic spirit of Greater Akron.
