This year’s tour will showcase five exquisitely decorated homes in West Akron, Highland Square and Merriman Hills. Sponsors will also be invited to a private party at an exclusive sixth residence in Fairlawn Heights from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Guests will tour a newly constructed home in Merriman Hills with a covered veranda and soaring great room ceilings; a 1925 Italian Renaissance Revival-style house built by Roy Firestone with a renovated kitchen and mid-century modern furnishings; a Tudor Revival-style home featuring a storybook curved stone entry that was originally owned by the CFO of Knight Publications; a completely remodeled, 1970s-era home in the Portage Woods development; and a 1924 Colonial house in Highland Square that has been restored to its original beauty with magnificent plaster crown moldings.

The Patron Party home is a 6,300-square-foot brick stunner in the heart of Fairlawn Heights with a fabulous outdoor entertaining space and unique holiday collectibles from around the world.

Proceeds from the Sugar Plum Tour support the Gay Community Endowment Fund’s grantmaking to programs that positively impact the LGBTQ+ community, as well as Greater Akron as a whole.

Tickets are available online at sugarplumtour.org, or at Angel Falls Coffee Company the day of the tour from noon to 2 p.m.

Women’s Endowment Fund

WEF logo

Inspiring, empowering and uplifting women and girls

In 1993, a group of 106 women came together with one goal in mind – to make a difference in the lives of local women and girls. Seeing a need for funding to support programs that empower this population, the women each gave $1,000 to start the Women’s Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation.

That $106,000 has since grown to $3.2 million, including funds from its recent "For Women, Forever" campaign, which raised more than $2.013 million. To date, the Women’s Endowment Fund has awarded more than $1.3 million in grants to programs that uplift, empower and educate women and girls throughout Akron and all of Summit County.

The group has also funded important studies on women and girls, including "The Economic Status of Women in Ohio," a briefing paper that uncovered great disparities based on race and ethnicity. These studies, along with the fund's biennial forum, help define the Women's Endowment Fund's grantmaking priorities.

Nonprofits interested in applying for a grant from the Women's Endowment Fund can find deadlines and other important information on our Issue-Specific Grants page.
