The event will showcase the fund's most recent grant recipients and feature a performance by the North Coast Men’s Chorus Coastliners and a scene from "The Laramie Project" by grant recipient Millennial Theatre Project. In addition, GCEF present Rosemary Reymann with the 2019 Paul Daum Award, which honors individuals who have demonstrated a significant commitment to LGBTQ+ causes and the Greater Akron community at large.

Women’s Endowment Fund

WEF logo

Inspiring, empowering and uplifting women and girls

In 1993, a group of 106 women came together with one goal in mind – to make a difference in the lives of local women and girls. Seeing a need for funding to support programs that empower this population, the women each gave $1,000 to start the Women’s Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation.

That $106,000 has since grown to $3.2 million, including funds from its recent "For Women, Forever" campaign, which raised more than $2.013 million. To date, the Women’s Endowment Fund has awarded more than $1.3 million in grants to programs that uplift, empower and educate women and girls throughout Akron and all of Summit County.

The group has also funded important studies on women and girls, including "The Economic Status of Women in Ohio," a briefing paper that uncovered great disparities based on race and ethnicity. These studies, along with the fund's biennial forum, help define the Women's Endowment Fund's grantmaking priorities.

Nonprofits interested in applying for a grant from the Women's Endowment Fund can find deadlines and other important information on our Issue-Specific Grants page.
