Description

The Gay Community Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation invites local residents and community leaders to its annual celebration, “exhALE: Advancing Lived Equality,” on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019.

This signature event celebrates the Gay Community Endowment Fund’s impact in the community and showcases its most recent grant recipients. Proceeds support the GCEF Scholarship Fund, which awards academic scholarships to LGBTQ+ and allied students in Greater Akron.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. at the Akron Civic Theatre and will feature a performance by the North Coast Men’s Chorus Coastliners. In addition, the fund will announce the recipient of its 2019 Paul Daum Award, which honors individuals who have demonstrated a significant commitment to LGBTQ+ causes and the Greater Akron community at large.

Sponsorship opportunities for the event range from $250 to $1,000 and include complimentary tickets to the event, among other benefits. For more information about becoming a sponsor, visit www.akroncf.org/GCEFsponsors or contact Gayle Wilson at 330-436-5614 or gwilson@akroncf.org.

Tickets to the event will go on sale in June. Guests who purchase their tickets by July 15 will receive a special early bird discount. To receive an invitation, register for the Gay Community Endowment Fund’s e-news at www.akroncf.org/GCEFnews.

Women’s Endowment Fund

WEF logo

Inspiring, empowering and uplifting women and girls

In 1993, a group of 106 women came together with one goal in mind – to make a difference in the lives of local women and girls. Seeing a need for funding to support programs that empower this population, the women each gave $1,000 to start the Women’s Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation.

That $106,000 has since grown to $3.2 million, including funds from its recent "For Women, Forever" campaign, which raised more than $2.013 million. To date, the Women’s Endowment Fund has awarded more than $1.3 million in grants to programs that uplift, empower and educate women and girls throughout Akron and all of Summit County.

The group has also funded important studies on women and girls, including "The Economic Status of Women in Ohio," a briefing paper that uncovered great disparities based on race and ethnicity. These studies, along with the fund's biennial forum, help define the Women's Endowment Fund's grantmaking priorities.

Nonprofits interested in applying for a grant from the Women's Endowment Fund can find deadlines and other important information on our Issue-Specific Grants page.
