Grant helps nurture abused, neglected children

By Terry Pfleiderer

A place to heal. A place for hope. A place to feel safe. These special places are critical to our community, and especially to our children.

The Children’s Center of Medina County began nurturing abused and neglected children in 2007. Since then, the center has helped more than 9,000 Medina County children through collaboration, advocacy, treatment and prevention.

The center serves as a centralized location for interviewing and examining children who are victims of physical and sexual abuse. It coordinates police, prosecution, mental health and medical agencies to the benefit of the victim. By providing examinations, laboratory results, and interview facilities under one roof, the organization maintains a sense of security for abused children in Medina County.

Unfortunately, in 2017 the center began to experience an increased need for its services. To provide additional space for victim care, the center broke ground on a new facility in August 2018. The Children’s Center’s new home will include a state-of-the-art medical examination room, soundproof interview room, new conference and family rooms and a laboratory.

Through a recent $15,000 grant to the center, the Medina County Community Fund is aiding this construction. Our grant is being used to help build and furnish a new playroom for family visitation. This playroom and the rest of The Children’s Center’s new home is expected to be completed this spring.

We are proud to support such an important organization in our community. For more information about The Children's Center of Medina County, call 330-764-8891 or visit medinacountychildrenscenter.org.
