Position Description

This is a part-time position that reports to the Chief Financial Officer, working 20-25 hours a week. This position will assist the Finance Department with daily and monthly activities, including accounts payable, daily gift entry and deposits. This person will also be responsible for donor and internal gift reports. 

Personal Characteristics

The ideal candidate for this position is detail oriented, organized and has a strong work ethic. This person can work both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to adhere to policies while also making recommendations to improve efficiency. In addition to exhibiting strong math skills, the ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated and have a positive attitude. This person will be able to plan and organize their work, prioritizing the most urgent needs of the community foundation. They will also have a demonstrated commitment to philanthropy and community service, and a willingness to adhere to the community foundation’s values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily deposit of gifts, including data entry into the community foundation’s database
  • Input of accounts payable into the database and preparation of vendor payments
  • Monthly reconciliation of business checking accounts
  • Preparation and distributions of monthly and quarterly reports to fundholders
  • Assistance with quarterly fund statement distribution
  • Creation of written documents, letters and reports with little oversight
  • Assistance with other internal requests for gift/grant reports as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance or an applicable discipline
  • Experience with and dedication to providing a high level of customer service
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as online research skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and accounting database(s)
  • Ability to quickly master new software programs
  • Discretion when handling confidential information such as contributions and other related correspondence
  • Understanding of GAAP and IRS regulations
  • Understanding of a general ledger and the principles of fund accounting
