Access to food is an integral component of Akron residents' health and wellness.
In 2014, Akron Community Foundation convened a group of local stakeholders around the subject of improving Summit County's food economy. Members of the Summit Food Policy Coalition, including farmers, grocers and nonprofits, met with government leaders and local funders. All came to the same conclusion: To be successful, our local food system needs greater connectivity.
The Arthur Kelly Fund of Akron Community Foundation made a grant to the Institute for Conservation Leadership to assess our community's successes, problems and opportunities for improvement. The outcome was a food systems assessment report, which will guide our funding in the future and encourage structured food collaborations across the community.
